Words without deeds

“Let us seek to discover the things of heaven through the sweat of our efforts, rather than by mere talk, for at the hour of death it is deeds, not words, that must be displayed.” –Saint John Climacus

How true this is. We tend to talk about so much, yet do so little.

We speak more words than there are stars in the sky, yet our actions are few and far between.

We have such a habit about talking about the poor, yet we do not actually talk to the poor.

We talk about increasing in holiness and practicing virtue, yet we stay unchanged.

We speak about the state of our society and the evil therein, yet we do nothing to help it.

We say lofty words about God, yet our hearts are far from Him.

Let us cease speaking so much, and let us do more for those around us.
