Without temptations, no-one can be saved

A monk praying in Saint Anthony’s Monastery in Egypt.

“He also said, ‘Whoever has not experienced temptation cannot enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.’ He even added, “Without temptations no-one can be saved.’” -Sayings of the Desert Fathers (Abba Anthony the Great, paragraph 5)

This might make us uneasy,

or upset,

or it might seem unfair,

but it is beautiful.

Temptations are clear and visible ways to test our love of Christ. We are given the opportunity to reject evil and cling to Christ every time we are tempted to sin.

I can only imagine the joy it brings to Christ’s Sacred Heart every time we reject sin and turn to Him instead.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon us!
