O, Uncreated One

Before time began, You are

The eternal I AM,

All beautiful, all good, all holy

You love freely —calling all things into being, even me.

What can I say about You?

Lofty and transcendent words still fall short,

beyond all I can imagine there is You, the True.

Oh inconceivable One, how beautiful must be Your court.

But then, when mind wanders beyond this realm

I am aware of a truth, often too hard to tell.

O Spirit, who hovers above the waters

How is it that You, who rules the sky

make Your home in Eve’s sons and daughters?

When Eve and Adam turned from You Lord,

Even our own selves, we abhorred.

For when Your creation is far from You,

There is no possibility of true virtue.

Your grace never fails

Even when sin prevails.

For since You Lord, are beyond all things

We have nothing to fear, even Kings.
